UCSF – Anatomy Laboratory, San Francisco
This project involved renovating a 9,000 sq ft laboratory and office space for the UCSF Dept of Anatomy & Pathology. This highly complex project involved phased demolition and renovation of contiguous spaces spanning three linked buildings on the 13th floor of the UCSF Medical Sciences Buildings. It accommodates a large wet laboratory with modular lab benches and desks for 36 people, Tissue Culture, Primary Cell Culture, Microscopy, Equipment rooms with new Electron Microscope & Confocal, an Admin Suite including offices for Principal Investigators and a communal Break Area / Touchdown space. The use of a suite concept to eliminate rated construction and the relocation of the formerly double-loaded corridor to one side of the building were the primary design moves that solved the puzzle of how to knit the existing disparate spaces into a coherent entity.
