Freshford – Orthodontic Clinic & Apartments, Kilkenny, Ireland
7000 sq ft orthodontic clinic and two apartments in a new two-story building.
The project houses a large double-height hall with six treatment stations, allowing the practitioners to work simultaneously with multiple patients. The sloped site allowed the building step from one to two stories to create a private sunken landscaped court that the large treatment hall overlooks. This tactic provides a qualitative exterior space for the two residential apartments. An exterior play area for the children of attending patients is sheltered by a large cantilevered roof. This building encircles and responds to the exterior spaces that are generated from its form.
