This project involved a 100,000 sq ft seismic upgrade and comprehensive renovation of a historical building, including the design of 306 faculty offices, numerous classrooms and conference facilities, new restrooms, a rooftop sculpture garden and exterior amphitheatre.

The sensitive adaptation and modernization of this historically significant building was fundamental to our approach. Using the best-practice principles of international architectural conservation, we strove to retain and celebrate the original fabric and detail in this beautiful building. All of the new interventions are manifestly contemporary. This approach accords with the same best-practice principles where new interventions should not mimic and devalue the original building fabric but instead should show a clear contrast that allows the original detail to stand out.
