UCSF Health – Primary & Specialty Care Clinic, San Mateo, CA
This 12,000 sq ft facility accommodates two practices, a new primary care clinic and a multi-specialty care clinic. They are located on the ground floor of an existing building at Park Place in San Mateo.
The primary care clinic comprises medical offices, exam rooms, entry, administration and conference spaces. Similarly, the specialty care clinic includes medical offices, exam rooms and entry but also provides Pediatric, Orthopedic, OBGYN / Prenatal Diagnostic Dermatology and Imaging services comprising an X-ray room, 3D Mammography and Ultrasound units. It is also equipped with a Procedure Room.
The co-location and interdependency of these two clinics was a key driving force in the development of this project. Both clinics have independent entries but share a common corridor controlled by a set of cross corridor doors that allows for some of the primary care exam rooms to be used by the specialty care clinic. The specialty clinic also needed to divide the Adult from the Pediatric circulation. Both of these requirements drove the design of the clinic.
The clinic space is lined on its eastern, western and southern sides by tall, generous arched windows. The project was planned to maximize the penetration of natural daylight. Combined with an exuberant color scheme and finish selections, this project provides a bright, airy, warm and inviting environment that overturns institutional perceptions of these clinics.
